I would like to send a big thank you to everyone involved in the organisation of this years event. I did not think it was possible, but you managed to surpass the quality and enjoyment of last years event.
I brought my neice this year and she thoroughly enjoyed the stalls, circus (especially the Punch and Judy show) and the live acts on stage.
Loved peatbog faeries. i stood at the front far right, im a new model army fan,and have been for years. seeing NMA at spratton would be all my birthdays and christmases:)
This was my second Spratton and my first as a performer. Once again impressed by the organisation and the helpfulness of the people. Gary and Jack on stage 2 were top blokes doping a difficult job! Only comment would be looking at the orientation of the stages to try to reduce sound from Stage 1 onto Stage 2 but a minor point overall. Good gig!!;)
We thoroughly enjoyed our first time at Spratton, the music was excellent and the atmosphere was brilliant too. We had a really great time and will definitely be going again next year. Huge thanks to everyone that made the weekend such an experience.:)
Forgot to mention the Panic Circus was excellent. It kept the kids entertained and left us adults to get, err, "relaxed". The site felt safe and I was quite happy to let the kids wander off on their own.
I was a bit of a festival virgin, so glad my first experience was at Spratton- it was a fantastic weekend. My daughter is a big Peatbog' fan and was v excited at the prospect of seeing them. We also enjoyed Invocal, but I thought the standard of music was excellent there wasn't a single group I didn't like. Hope the line up is as good next year. I wonder if Fairport will be as good?
Last year, Bluehorses, this year Peatbog Faeries. Can it get any better? Panic Circus should be a permanent booking. The 50% hike in camping cost put us off booking for the weekend so we just went on Saturday & didn't drink. False economy? Just returned from Sonic World Festival with free camping @ £50 family ticket for the weekend. I hope it's not a case of Folk Will Eat Itself....Big thanks for getting some great bands tho.
Great weekend that was very very wet in the most enjoyable sense. Thanks to all the team who put in so much hard work. Music was very good though slightly disappointed that Peatbog were acoustic only, I kept thinking 'they will sing soon', that said I did hop about like a man with one leg on a steep hill so they must have had something. Do prefer to have a group whose songs I know and can sing to. I've heard talk of the Proclaimers - they would be just right or perhaps the Saw Doctors.
The sequence of acts on Sat PM was good as well, it built up nicely. Mad Dog McCrea were great value as were Angels Share.
Waterhorse in the tent on Friday were superb.
It was good to see that beer etc was reasonably priced and we didn't start to run out until Sat evening.
Areas where I thought there are opportunities to make it even better are :-
1. Food Village - limited choice
2. Layout for stalls. I walked up one of the avenues thinking it would loop around to the other avenue but found myself amongst the retailers cars and tents.
Also worthy of note was the Sunday Bandfest at the pub, there were a couple of acts that would easily be good enough for Fri/Sat. Hope it becomes an integral part of the festival.
Already looking forward to next year though, if my wife is reading, I will be home before 0100 Monday next year I promise!(though not necessarily sober)
First time at Spratton but will certainly come again.I had a terrible journey there with the car being twice patched up by the RAC,so needed cheering up.Two acts summed up the brilliant diversity of the weekend. The Oyster's at one end and the refreshingly different Strangeworld at the other. For once a festival that had quality of planning and not the constant barrage of similarity of acts that some serve up.Keep upthe good work and see you next year.Better weather please.
:):)
What a lovely event! We enjoyed playing on the acoustic stage and meeting lots of new people. The Peatbog Faeries were a perfect end to the day. Beth, Pete and Steve x
Thanks for all your great comments. We do listen to what you say.
We are already talking about a 3 day event next year, although this may be news to Oz.
We accept your comments about camping charges and this will be addressed.
At 3 on saturday afernoon I told Nobby that his beer had to last until 7. He kept to his word and strung it out til 10:15.
We will do our best to book Panic Circus, but he tends to put it in his diary anyway.
Please let us know about your gripes for the weekend and we will try and iron them out for next year. Please also tell us the best bits and we'll keep them in.
I do need to mention that we have a fantastic team that works well together and that is one of the reason why the events is enjoyed by everybody.
Thanks to them and thanks to you all for coming.
We will keep you informed of next years progress - see you next year and bring your friends.
Please keep you comments coming...
Thanks Steve for your nice comments about the Sunday - I'd certainly love to put it on again, but we'll have to see in what capacity if the plans are to change it to a 3 day event - roll on next meeting!
I agree too that being able to have a singalong late at night is important - but saying that I did love the Peatbog Faeries
I've said it before and I'll say it again - I would LOVE to see Hayseed Dixie headlining one of the nights next year
As for gripes, I have none that havent already been mentioned
Extract from "Talkawhile forum" - I`m going . I thought a weekend ticket wasnt too bad a price - then found out after buying my tickets that the camping (£30)and booking charge (£5+) added up to more than as much as the Festival ticket . Its turned out an expensive one .
I only decided to go today . That Oysterband are costing me dearly this year (well worth it though ).
I see Ella Edmondson is also performing there . Now shes good .
Also comments on Ely, some chose to go to Ely or balance between the two. Perhaps we should talk to Ely now so the dates don’t clash.
Great show and thanks to everyone concerned!! It was my first SFF and won't be the last. Great organisation, excellent camping site and so close to the music. Great line up and despite the weather, a very enjoyable fest'.
My first Spratton - all 3 generations who came with us enjoyed it immensely! Definitely the best value festival of the summer (having got the 2 for 1 tickets) - hope you didn't make too much of a loss!
Enjoyed (nearly) all the music - didn't know any of the acts before apart from the two headliners, but a good, varied selection. Incidentally, four of us who were blown away by the Peatbog Faeries also saw them at Trowbridge 2 weeks later and were really disappointed by the sound there - so congrats to your sound guys - excellent throughout!
Camping excellent too - I'm not used to having water at a festival, let alone hot water! It makes a difference when thinking about which festivals to attend! (e.g. Cropredy campsite facilities awful!)
No real gripes - maybe more varied 'organic' food would be good, but I'm always happy with tortilla wraps and the Real Sausage Co.
Nice dog-friendly festival for our labrador - thanks to your stewards and the police for helping when she did escape! Plus some fantastic dog-walking country nearby - very thoughtful of yu to provide fields of rabbits for her to chase (and fail to catch!)
Suggestions for future acts - where to start? You obviously think big so how about Richard Thompson or the Afro-Celts. Mention was made of the Levellers or the Proclaimers next year - good crowd-pleasing choices but I hope you get some sort of semi-exclusivity - much as I like the Oysterband they do seem to be playing every single festival this summer! Enjoyed Dan Donnelly very much at Big Session, plus Martin Harley and the very young but incredibly talented Mawkin: Causley at Trowbridge. Favourites of mine who would fit in well to Spratton include Celloman, Reg Meuross and the FOS Brothers.
Fantastic festival. Great Comments by Mike davenport (above). He has great taste in music. Reg Meuross would be great at Spratton. Have heard him play with both Miranda Sykes (Show of Hands) and Jackie Oates. Camping facilities brilliant. Maybe check out the food stalls that Big Session provided. Will come again next year. :)

"We need more festivals like this one. Some festivals pretend to be major events where this one is.A great choice of artists covering the complete scope of what folk music has to offer in 2008.
From the volume of the Oyster Band to the precise textures of Strangeworld , the delicacy of harmony of Invocal, the energy of Crucible etc etc.Long may this festival continue.
One downpoint for me,the parking."

"Although the numbers were obviously hit by the weather still a really great festival and so well organised.
I missed getting there for the Friday night but still managed to catch just about everything on the Saturday. I was blown away by the opening act Strangeworld, had never heard of them before but at last something that bit different. Harriet Bartlett as good as ever.
A great mix of Bands. One of the jewels was the John Richards Band, last on in the marquee; Beautiful songs.
I had to keep popping out to see a bit of Mad dog Mcrea. Another great entertaining band.
Well done, John Golby
I'm just editing some video from a private concert I attended this year and one band would really fit in well at Spratton, Green Angels from Glastonbury. English border pipes & bouzouki go surprisingly well together. Another highlight this year (apart from the Peatbogs at Spratton of course) was Bruise (myspace, bruiseuk) another new band for me.
Could only go in the evenings as we were both working, the organisers could have been more flexible with the £22 entry fee, £22 seems like a lot of money for 3 hours entertainment !!!
This was our first visit and we had brilliant day on Saturday, thank you! In particular 3 Daft Monkeys and Demon Barbers were excellent.
The only improvements we'd make were to offer a bit more of a choice in the food stalls (glad I wasn't a veggie!!) and to ask people not to bring dogs with them. That's not because we have a problem with dogs (had one for 15 yrs) but because we think it's unfair for them to have to cope with the noise, people etc.
Keep up the good work! Hope to see you next year.:)
